What HPI cannot Accept as the Norm
In Nigeria, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and chronic respiratory illness are rising, with many adults in their 30s unlikely to reach 70. Low awareness, late diagnosis, and poor primary healthcare access fuel high death and disability rates, while rising healthcare costs threaten poverty reduction and the 2030 sustainable development goals.
How we are reducing NCD Deaths in Nigeria
To ensure access to life-saving NCD screening and timely treatment in Nigeria, HPI is investing in a multilingual NCD resource hub to drive awareness, leveraging technology to support risk-assessment, screening navigation and linkage to care while empowering lived-experience advocates at the community level to drive screening uptake and demand expanded primary health care capacity for NCDs.
Our Current Focus
Following the WHO “best buys” and 2022 Lancet policy on cost-effective NCD interventions, HPI will prioritize primary prevention of cardiovascular disease, screening for type 2 diabetes and cervical cancer, and providing awareness for early detection and support for common NCDs like breast cancer, the leading cause of cancer deaths among Nigerian women
We believe everyone in Nigeria deserves the chance to live a long, healthy life. That’s why we’re committed to making life-saving NCD screening and timely treatment accessible to all. Our vision is simple but powerful: no one should die prematurely from a disease that can be prevented or treated. Together, we can bring prevention and care closer to communities, raise awareness, and give hope where it’s needed most.
A world where no one’s life is cut short by a preventable or treatable non-communicable disease. Together, we can empower every person with the care, knowledge, and support they need to live a full, healthy life.
